Andrew Campo grew up in Hampden, Maine. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education at the University of Maine and a Master’s Degree from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. In 2006, Mr. Campo earned his National Board Teaching Certification, which has been achieved by less than 3% of the teachers in the United States. In 1997, Mr. Campo began teaching at Miami Southridge Senior High School in Miami Florida, where he taught marching band, jazz band, three concert bands, and piano for five years. He then taught for six years at Palm Springs Middle School of Choice For The Arts where he was band director and music department head.
Bands under Mr. Campo’s direction have performed in concert with Latin Grammy Award winner Nestor Torres and the world famous Dallas Brass. They have worked with Grammy Award winner Eddie “Guagua” Rivera and Latin Grammy Award nominee Edwin Bonilla. They have played on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, and performed on national television. Some of his students have signed recording contracts with major music labels and one has been nominated for a Latin Grammy Award. Some of his students appeared in the movie Drumline. Under his direction, in 2020 the music program at M-CMS was recognized by the NAMM Foundation as a SupportMusic Merit Award Winner, recognizing it as one of the best 150 K-12 music programs in America. The program was again awarded the NAMM SuportMusic Merit Award in 2021. It was one of only 80 schools in America recognized and the only school in Colorado. The program was again awarded the NAMM SuportMusic Merit Award in 2023. It was one of only 78 schools in America recognized. Mr. Campo had the distinct honor of being voted the Teacher of the Year at M-CMS in 2023 by his colleagues. Mr. Campo has worked at Montezuma-Cortez Middle School since 2008. In his free time Mr. Campo volunteers as President of the Children’s Kiva Montessori School Board of Directors (Children’s House). He recently served on the SouthWest Colorado Concerts Board of Directors. He currently serves as the Electives Team Leader and recently was a member of the Instructional Leadership Team. He lives in Cortez with his wife and Cortez native Kelly, their son TJ and daughter Grace.

Chris Moraga - Assistant Band Director
Chris Moraga is an experienced musician and educator who earned a Music Education K-12 degree from Fort Lewis College. During his time at FLC, he actively participated in a variety of ensembles, including jazz big band, wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, jazz combo, and the Latin American ensemble. Mr. Moraga regularly performs with the San Juan Symphony, the Southwest Civic Winds Band, and various local community musical theater groups. In addition to his orchestral and band performances, Mr. Moraga is an active member of the Jeff Solon jazz ensemble in Durango. He has also released a full-length EP with the indie rock band, Mars FM, based in Portland, Oregon. Outside of his musical pursuits, Mr. Moraga enjoys spending his free time skiing, mountain biking, and rafting. He is grateful to work with the Montezuma-Cortez school district and is looking forward to a great school year.
